Testing times

Sir, – I note with dismay and disbelief yet again that, when seeking feedback and commentary on this year’s State French Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations, it is to the self-serving private grind schools that your journalists turn. Is it so difficult to approach the specialist subject association or the specific subject representatives of the teacher unions who, after all, are the specialists in the field? – Yours, etc,

MARTIN KRASA,

Cork.

Sir, – I was surprised to read that the higher-level Leaving Certificate French paper made reference to “jeunes leaders” in wonderful Franglais, as opposed to “jeunes dirigeants”, as approved by the Académie française. No doubt it was for the benefit of those exempt from taking Irish. – Yours, etc,
