Madam, - In light of the recent tragic fires involving migrant workers and asylum-seekers in hostel accommodation of various kinds in Paris I think it urgent that the Irish authorities take heed.
There is unfortunately a tragedy waiting to happen here as well. I have raised this issue no fewer than three times in Seanad Éireann in the past year but without noticeable effect.
I have now placed a motion on the Order Paper for the autumn asking the Government to ensure that there is proper inspection of all such facilities from the point of view of fire, safety, health and hygiene. We really must act now before innocent lives are lost. - Yours, etc,
