RTÉ programme and local democracy

Sir, – I deplore the fact that some of those elected to positions of authority, and given the task of improving the lot of their fellow citizens, seek only to line their own pockets, even if it be at the expense of their community. However, I would suggest that were it not for the greed of those individuals and companies that seek to circumvent planning decisions for profit rather than for the good of the community, we would not have such situations.

I thought, as I am sure did many others, that following the various planning scandals of the past, this type of behaviour had been weeded out of the system and that “cute hoorism” was a thing of the past, but it appears to be alive and well.

How very sad to see that we have not really moved on and that we are still so badly served by what I hope is but a small section of our public representatives. – Yours, etc,
