'POOR MAN'S ANSBACHER'

Sir, - The article in your edition of July 8th, by Frank Brennan - "Poor man's Ansbacher may be much bigger than the real thing" - betrays a prejudice unworthy of The Irish Times.

He refers to "bank clerks and golf club bores" as being the propagators of bogus non-resident bank accounts. One would shudder to think of the reaction of your politically correct publication if the same sort of derogatory generalisation was applied to "Travellers" or "asylum-seekers".

Mr Brennan himself is referred to as a taxation consultant, but he does not mention that Rogue tax consultants construct many of such schemes. He should look to his own profession first. - Yours, etc.,

FRANK McCANN,
