Madam, - It is with wry amusement and no great surprise that I read the wording of the newspaper advertisement announcing the long-stay charges repayment scheme. It states that the repayments will be made "from funds provided by the State". Surely that must be the ultimate in semantics and misleading rhetoric! The money which will ultimately be repaid to the residents is that which was unjustly taken from them by the State and is legally their property. The residents are scarcely expected to be ecstatic that the appropriate and legally accruing interest will be included in the repayment. - Mise le meas,
