Lisbon Treaty referendum

Madam, – I feel compelled to write, to outline why a Yes vote is critical for this country. I run a pharmaceutical company, which has a German parent and significant exports to the EU. I can tell you that our colleagues in Europe are bemused as to why this small island might block or delay progress of the European project, and that there is a significant change in how the Irish are perceived after last year’s No vote. The reality is that our economy is entirely linked with the EU. If uncoupled, we face isolation in trade terms and culturally. The EU has been good for this country, and in these times, we need to be in the heart of it, not isolated at the edge.

A No vote would be a disastrous outcome for this country, it is as simple as that. – Yours, etc,
