Sir, - I emigrated to Australia in 1973 from Leitrim and after many years of struggling to keep myself up to date on Irish affairs, have been delighted, over recent months, to read The Irish Times on the Internet. I am finding it a great way to keep in touch with happenings at home.
I am currently writing a story on why Irish people migrate, with a particular empasis on the highs and lows of moving to Australia. I am hoping that the book will provide an insight for prospective migrants, which will enable them to consider the total picture before emigrating to foreign places.
I would appreciate feedback from Irish migrants living in Australia on their experience as a migrant, why they migrated, and if they were prepared for what awaited them. How did they cope without old networks, families? if they have returned to Ireland: why did they go back home? And have they settled back in the old place? - Yours etc,
