Sir, – Fiscal space? It sounds like a black hole to me. I can’t see anything coming out of it! – Yours, etc,
DERMOT RYDER,
Dublin 18.
Sir, – Like outer space, fiscal space is empty. But nature abhors a vacuum.
If and when there is 3 per cent growth year on year, no British exit from the European Union, and no increase in oil prices, the fiscal space will fill up with €12 billion by 2021. Factoring in cost of living increases, inflation and extra public sector pay, the fiscal space will reduce to €3 billion by 2021. This is the money that will be free to be used by the political parties to buy the election. – Yours, etc,
MARTIN CAREY,
Athlone, Co Westmeath.
Sir, – Surely it is time for a ceasefire in the war of the fiscal spacers! – Yours, etc,
PADDY BARRY,
Killiney, Co Dublin.
