A chara, – William Burton’s interesting article on Irish newspapers’ reporting of the Spanish Civil War (An Irishman’s Diary, January 5th) refers to the Londonderry Sentinel and “its rival across the river Foyle”, the Derry Journal. In 1937, and when I was growing up in Derry, both papers were located within a few yards of each other in the city centre on what we still call “the Derry side”. – Is mise,
