Sir, - Ms Webb's contention (August 7th), that mere males do not have the right to intervene in the abortion debate is potently nonsensical! Since both male and female have a function in the creation of a human life, it defies logic and natural justice to suggest that the male be denied the right to oppose a possible decision to abort his son/daughter.

It's a fact that most people, whatever their calling in life, have an opinion on the issue of the right to life of the unborn.

Surely Ms Webb is not also seriously suggesting Catholic priests somehow have no right even to hold an opinion, never mind express it publicly, on this fundamentally important issue for all civilised people? - Yours, etc.,

Mrs D. Bourke, Lee Road, Co Cork.
