Madam, - Monday's edition carried a report on the consecration of Bishop Brendan Kelly in Co Roscommon. Addressing the priests of the diocese the new bishop said: "My deepest prayer is that together we will form a fraternity of truly good shepherds for the people. . ."
Does Bishop Kelly really think that "the people" (half of whom are women) see themselves as sheep in the need of "a fraternity" of shepherds? This must be the most patronising and sexist of prayers the Almighty has had to listen to in a long time! - Yours, etc,
