Sir, - I agree with so much of what Vincent Woods says (Arts, September 3rd.) I just wish I could share his belief that the proliferation of "new venues and academic courses" will benefit the Irish theatre. The former are being built largely, it seems, to house the product of the latter.
The Irish theatre is becoming the domain of the administrator and the bureaucrat, with the artists relegated to the role of the disempowered, disaffected workforce. It is this, more than any other factor, that is creating the safe commercialism which Vincent Woods so rightly deplores. - Yours,
