Sir, – With deep respect for all affected, I am inclined to agree, in part, with Terry Hansen (Letters, July 1st), whose call for a moment of silence before World Cup games is a heartfelt gesture towards innocent victims of air strikes. In recognising the importance of such gestures, it might also be worth considering the countless communities affected by conflict and tragedy worldwide, beyond Iran and Gaza.
Perhaps by broadening our remembrance, we can foster greater empathy and unity. While it is important to honour those suffering in current crises, let us remember that suffering knows no borders and every victim deserves recognition.
Rather than establishing a hierarchy of distress, we might strive for an inclusive moment of reflection that honours all those impacted by violence and loss.
In recognition of universal suffering, let’s strive together for a world where every victim is remembered and compassion is extended to all. Best get to the stadium early, maybe? – Yours, etc,
