A chara, – The Irish Refugee Council’s accusation that the Government is “pandering” to the far right by adding Botswana and Algeria to its list of safe countries shows how out of touch many NGOs are with the public mood and reality of the housing crisis facing the Government (“Asylum system changes ‘are pandering’ to far right, says TD”, News, January 31st).
Unless the Irish Refugee Council can point to any ongoing actual wars happening in Botswana, Algeria, Georgia, etc, that have escaped international observers, they should rethink their approach to helping the refugees they purport to serve and stick to the facts. – Yours, etc,
