Sir, – At 9am, after dropping my daughter to work, I logged on to her laptop to buy presale tickets for Coldplay performing in Croke Park on August 29th and 30th.
I was delighted to see the screen showing the progression from “The Lobby” to “The Waiting Room” and finally to “The Queue”. At 11 am, I was circa 170,000th in the queue for tickets, but eventually I was about to secure tickets. All I had to do was click on the “Find Tickets” button, which I did, repeatedly, only to be greeted with “Sorry, there is a problem with wifi connection.”
Then exciting news came through at noon – a further date, September 1st, was being added to the Dublin venue and presale tickets were being made available at noon today. I was circa 50,000th in the queue. I waited and waited and waited. Finally I was next to secure tickets and then the screen changed to “Promoter’s presale starting tomorrow at 10 am”.
Then more exciting news ensued – another date was being added to the tour, September 2nd, and I was circa 120,000 in the queue. Again I waited and waited and finally the screen stated I was next to secure tickets – only for the screen to once again change and state “Sorry, there is a problem with wifi connection”.

The upshot is that after seven hours of patiently waiting to buy two presale tickets for one of Coldplay’s four events in Dublin, I ended up with nothing.
To add insult to injury, I missed my Tuesday game of golf, as I did last Thursday when trying for Taylor Swift tickets. I appreciate these are all small problems in the greater scheme of things, but could some technologically gifted being please try and make the buying of tickets easier?
I think “consciously uncoupling” from Coldplay might be in order!
As for you lucky fans who secure tickets, please enjoy the shows. We’ll be living vicariously through you. – Yours, etc,
