Sir, – Fintan O’Toole is probably right in suggesting that “Johnson feels over” (Opinion, June 13th).
However, I would not rule out Johnson contesting the Mid-Bedfordshire seat vacated by Nadine Dorries, as an independent Tory. He would stand no chance under PR but enough of the 24,000 Conservative majority at the last election might support him to win the seat under the British system of first past the post.
As your columnist himself points out, Mr Johnson fled the House of Commons (“for now”) in disgrace. The “for now” might be a very short time. – Yours, etc,
