Political representatives lack backbone

Sir, – In his critique of Dáithí Ó hAodha letter of February 18th), Frank Walsh (February 21st ) opines, “In the interests of accuracy, these matters are ‘not handed over’ to the respective assemblies as these groups are advisory rather than directive”.

I beg to differ.

In my view, a citizens’ assembly is an undemocratic quango set up by politicians to massage public opinion and is a convenient escape route for those representatives who lack the backbone to represent the views of their own constituents. – Yours, etc,
