The search for a man missing after a fatal yachting accident went on all day yesterday and was suspended at dusk.

The body of his companion on the yacht, Mr Liam Mulpeter (50), of South Dock, Ringsend, Dublin, was found on Sunday.

Two lifeboats, a helicopter and two Coast Guard units were involved in the search for Mr Robert Lawlor, also in his fifties and who, like Mr Mulpeter, was a member of the Poolbeg Yacht and Sailing Club in Dublin.

The yacht, the 25-foot Gillyann, was found fully rigged off the Meath coast on Saturday evening.

The yacht was last seen off St Patrick's Island earlier in the day, but was not reported as missing or in difficulty.

Visibility at the time was very poor, though the wind was light. The yacht was on its way to Carlingford for a race when the accident, the cause of which is unclear, happened.
