Workers from a Turkish construction company have gathered in Dublin to protest at their working conditions on a number of sites in the city.

Around 200 employees of Gama Construction marched from the Monument of Light on O'Connell Street to Leinster House and back to Liberty Hall, the headquarters of the Siptu trade union.

Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins, who has highlighted the workers' conditions and low pay, joined them on the protest.

It is alleged the company pays workers well below the Irish minimum wage and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has begun an investigation into the claims.

Four former employees of the firm also recently discovered there were bank accounts in their names in The Netherlands they had not been aware of.

Gama went to the High Court last week to take a legal challenge to the validity of the Government's investigation into its employment affairs in Ireland.

The company was granted leave to seek a judicial review of the decision of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to open an investigation into the allegations raised in the Dáil by Joe Higgins.
