As far as tactical games go, Frozen Synapse is one of the best for iPad. The game has made the leap from PC and Mac to the mobile platform, and while it's a lot to get your head around, it's certainly worth the effort. You manage a team of soldiers, acting as tactician and controlling their moves almost in real time. You decide what they will do, such as take a test run to make sure your aim is correct, and then both your team and your enemy's moves are carried out simultaneously. There's a lot of guesswork and anticipation to take into account here, and newer players may struggle to start with. It's all done in a glowing neon world, which gives it a futuristic, not quite real feel. You certainly get value for money. The single player campaign is 55 missions long, and there are five multiplayer modes to get to grips with. Maps are randomly generated, so you'll never know what's coming next. Worth persevering with.
