Sarno - The death toll from mudslides engulfing five villages near Naples climbed to at least 91 late yesterday as the government announced a local state of emergency and 3,000 searchers still digging for up to 200 missing people stumbled on three survivors.

A 22 year-old man was rescued after three days trapped in the rubble of his house, while two boys were found in another part of the same village.

Attempts continued to clear tonnes of mud which heavy rain sent gushing down from mountains overnight in Monday.
