Spar Ireland today will invest over €40 million in the expansion of its supermarket brand in Ireland creating up to 750 jobs.

The investment will result in 10 new Eurospar convenience stores by the end of 2005 and will bring the total invested by the company and its retailers to over €90 million in over two years (2004-2005).

Last year BWG, the owners of the Spar franchise in Ireland, launched a three-year expansion drive to open 100 new stores including 40 Eurospar stores around the country.

Eurospar stores are designed to cater for the growing convenience sector in Irish retailing. Research indicates that consumers are shopping more frequently and are favouring fresh foods that are both healthy and convenient.
