Six people were killed in road accidents at the weekend and six were injured, three seriously. A taxi-driver was killed and four people were injured in a head-on collision yesterday between two cars in Derry. A man was killed in a pile-up near Claregalway, Co Galway, on Friday evening. Mr Michael Cullinane (60) was a teacher in Glenamaddy. A woman injured in the accident was in a serious condition in hospital.

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car on Saturday afternoon near Loughrea, Co Galway. A man was killed in a collision in Termon, Co Donegal, early yesterday. He was Mr Harry James (40) from Letterkenny. The other driver was not seriously injured.

Mr Keith Kelly (23), Rath angan, Co Kildare, was killed when his car went out of control near Bracknagh, Co Offaly, at 2.40 a.m. yesterday. No other vehicle was involved. An 85-year-old man died in hospital yesterday morning after an accident in Newry, Co Down. He had been walking on the Camlough road about 5 p.m. on Saturday when he was hit by a car.
