Independent airline, Ryanair, yesterday launched a £10 return fare to any of its 11 destinations in Britain.

The £10 fare must be booked before the close of business on Thursday, August 27th, with passengers travelling to the UK by August 29th and returning before September 10th.

Seats will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Ms Ethel Power, Ryanair's head of communications, said Irish customers will be offered 5,000 seats at the £10 return fare.

However, Ms Power added that Irish airport tax of £5 and British tax of £10 will increase the cost to customers by IR£16.60. "This is a ridiculous tax," Ms Power said. A business traveller to the west coast of the United States may be paying £3,000 but the tax is still £5. "This needs to be looked at".

Ryanair says it is on course to carry nearly five million passengers on its 26 routes between Ireland, the UK and Continental Europe.
