Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Barry Ryan has been handed a 15 month ban, following a sitting by the FAI's Independent Doping Tribunal.

Ryan tested positive in both A and B samples for what is regarded in the Association's Doping Control Regulations as a banned substance.

The Ennis born goalkeeper has seven days in which to appeal the ruling, though it is not yet clear whether he will do so.

Ryan is the first professional player in the country to have been banned by the Tribunal and looks likely to be out of competitive football until the start of the 2005 season.
