Manchester United are pursuing their interest in Brazilian Ronaldinho as theWorld Cup star's future looks set to be decided this week.

The Red Devils are reported to have upped their bid to close to stg£18million but the Old Trafford club have refused to be drawn on their latest moves.

Conscious that letting details of their moves in the transfer market out before informing the Stock Exchange could get them into trouble with the financial authorities, the Old Trafford club are playing their cards close to their chest.

A spokesman said: "We are pursuing our interest in the player." And that would appear to tie in with what Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto Assis has confirmed over the player's future.

With Real Madrid and Chelsea reported to be interested in the Paris St Germain player, Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be keen to close a deal forDavid Beckham's replacement sooner rather than later.

Assis revealed what was likely to happen when he said: "It's going to be resolved on Thursday.

"Manchester United and Real Madrid are continuing negotiations with PSG. Theclub have already spoken to Chelsea regarding Ronaldinho."

Madrid, who snapped up Beckham for a deal which could be worth £25m, are alsohoping to block Ferguson's bid for Ronaldinho by topping the offer from the OldTrafford club and even allowing the player to remain in Paris for anotherseason.
