January 4th: 2.30pm: Eleven-year-old Robert Holohan is seen cycling out of the driveway of his home at Ballyedmond, Midleton by his mother, Majella.

3.30pm: He calls to the home of his friend, Wayne O'Donoghue, who becomes angry with Robert when the boy throws stones at O'Donoghue's car. O'Donoghue strangles him.

4pm-5pm: O'Donoghue drives to Ballintra East near Inch where he dumps Robert's body in a glen.

8pm -8.30pm: O'Donoghue returns to Ballintra East to recover Robert's body and put it on the beach. He fails to retrieve the body.

9pm-10pm: O'Donoghue reassures Majella Holohan that Robert will be found and joins in the search for Robert.

January 5th: O'Donoghue helps in the search as hundreds of people help to look for Robert. He also fills out a questionnaire for gardaí.

January 6th - January 7th: More than 2,000 volunteers help to comb large tracts of land around Midleton.

January 8th: O'Donoghue makes a witness statement to gardaí.

January 9th: He makes a supplemen- tary witness statement to gardaí.

January 12th: Robert's body is discovered at Ballintra East, Inch.

January 13th: Postmortem shows that Robert died from asphyxia due to neck compression.

January 15th: Bishop John Magee appeals at Robert's funeral Mass for Robert's killer to give himself up. Gardaí match fingerprints found on a plastic bag at the scene with those of O'Donoghue.

January 16th: O'Donoghue tells his father, Ray, that he killed Robert and his father contacts gardaí. O'Donoghue makes a seven-hour cautioned statement of admission to gardaí after consultation with his solicitor, Frank Buttimer. He is then arrested.

January 17th: O'Donoghue is questioned by gardaí at Midleton station about Robert's death. He is charged later that evening with his manslaughter.

April 21st: O'Donoghue is charged with the murder of Robert Holohan and the Director of Public Prosecutions withdraws the manslaughter charge. He is returned for trial at the Central Criminal Court.
