Gardai in north Dublin are seeking a man after three shots were fired outside a church while the funeral Mass of a teenage drug addict was taking place yesterday. Witnesses said that a young man stood on a boulder on waste ground about 50 yards away from the Church of Our Lady Immaculate in Darndale and discharged three rifle shots into the air over a shopping centre, and then fled.

It was believed the shooting was intended to be a mark of respect for Mr Brian English, (18), who died on Tuesday after taking a drug overdose. Gardai said he had no criminal record and was not suspected of drug-dealing.
