A hero of the Fastnet Rock rescue mission was yesterday given a two-year suspended sentence when he pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including damaging two boats and sending letters threatening arson to two public houses.

RNLI Ballycotton Lifeboat mechanic Michael Lane Walsh (44), from Pier Cottage, Ballycotton, was deeply traumatised at the time of the offences and was unlikely to re-offend, Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard.
