Pub sales show monthly increase, yearly fall

Pub sales have clawed back some of their sales in October, but annual figures are down on last year, according to the Central Statistics Office.

Figures show a 0.6 per cent increase on monthly volume sales for October, but there was a fall of 5.7 per cent on annual sales.

In terms of the overall retail sector, the volume of retail sales increased by 1.2 per cent in October compared with last year's figures; however, there was a monthly decrease of 1.8 per cent.

With the motor trade taken into account, the growth in volume jumps to 2.9 per cent. with the monthly decrease falling to .01 per cent.

Over three months from July to September, the electrical sector benefited most from increased sales, showing a 9.4 per cent increase. The footwear and leather sector saw the largest fall, with a 3.2 per cent drop in sales.
