Police in south Belfast last night appealed for the driver of a green Rover car to come forward to help their investigation into the death of a man in a hit-and-run last week.

Gary Whittley, from Felt Street, near Sandy Row, was killed after he was knocked down at the junction of the Donegall Road and Tierney Gardens. He died a short time after being admitted to hospital.

Although seven people have been questioned about the incident, no one has been charged.

Police have been studying CCTV footage and have been focusing on a green Rover 600 saloon car that was found burnt out at Cooke Street off the Ormeau Road; they believe it may have been involved in the incident.
