Police in the North are today investigating reports that the carinvolved in an accident this morning in which two men were killed had been stolen earlier in the south.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the men were driving a silver Toyota and a red Vauxhall Cavalier which collided at a roundabout on the Dublin Road in Newry, County Down at around 9.30am

She confirmed that detectives were investigating reports that the Vauxhall had been stolen earlier this morning in Dundalk, County Louth.

Police in Newry are still trying to establish the identities of the two victims. It is understood that no-one else was injured in the crash.

Cross border traffic has been diverted from the scene of the accident, causing long tailbacks in the area.
