Two blast bomb devices exploded at flats on the outskirts of Belfast last night.

The PSNI said they exploded at vacant flats in the Rathcoole Drive area of Newtownabbey, north of the city, after 10pm, causing damage to the doors.

There were no reports of any injuries. The area was sealed off as police examined the scene.

Elsewhere, two men escaped injury when a pipe-bomb was thrown through the window of a house at Carnbrook Drive in Antrim. The device damaged a bedroom.

A man suffered minor burns and the effects of smoke inhalation after an arson attack on a flat in Bangor, Co Down.

The living room window of the first-floor property was smashed and petrol poured in and set alight.

Two men were reported to have been seen outside the flat at the time of the attack and police have appealed for witnesses.
