McKenna accuses Stagg in radiation claim on masts

THE Green MEP, Ms Patricia McKenna, has accused the Minister of State, Mr Emmet Stagg of "irresponsible" claims that there his no health risk from radiation emitted by telecommunications masts.

She said Mr Stagg, who is Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications, had cited only one case study in assuring the Dail there was no risk.

"He is ignoring other reports which come to quite different conclusions about the threat from electromagnetic radiation. His attitude is similar to that frequently shown by spokespeople for the nuclear industry, where they just quote selectively from one report and ignore anything they don't like to hear."

A report published in February by scientists from Bristol University had outlined ways in which electromagnetic radiation might trigger cancer, she added.
