THE Law Reform Commission proposals on changes in defamation laws are still under consideration by the Department of Equality and Law Reform. Asked by the Fianna Fail spokesman, Jim, McDaid, if he thought the current law limited investigative journalism, the Minister, Mr Taylor said it did, but there had to be restraint. "Otherwise persons' good names could be done down. What the restraints are is a matter for determination. A balance has to be achieved between the rights of newspapers to report and the rights of individuals."
