A lone objector from Cork city has halted plans to develop a €100 million private hospital in Adare, Co Limerick, after appealing the decision to give the project the go-ahead to An Bord Pleanála.
Last month, Limerick County Council granted planning permission to Adare Partners - led by Tom Kane, the US-based owner of the Adare Manor Hotel - to develop the 100-bed private hospital on a 35-acre campus at Adare. However, the plan has now been put on hold after John V Lennon of John Paul Lennon and Co lodged an appeal.
Mr Lennon, with a business address of Lee Road, Cork, was also the sole objector to the plan during the nine months in which the application was adjudicated upon by the council.
In his appeal, Mr Lennon claimed the development was premature and should not be permitted until after the N21 had bypassed Adare. He also claimed it was premature due to the lack of foul waste-disposal facilities.
West Limerick TD Dan Neville (FG) said yesterday: "I can't understand how a Cork person would appeal against a decision affecting development in Adare."
