CRICKET:Kevin Pietersen has reportedly threatened to quit the England captaincy and called for showdown talks over the role of coach Peter Moores. The South African, who is currently on holiday, has reportedly asked to speak with ECB chairman Giles Clarke when he returns home.
It is believed his request follows the decision not to select Michael Vaughan for the upcoming Test tour to the West Indies, according to The Daily Mail.
Pietersen is a strong supporter of the former skipper and despite a lack of runs in recent times, believes the batsman can play a crucial role in the Ashes series this summer.
Vaughan's absence from the 16-man party has now left the current leader considering his position ahead of a massive year which also includes the Twenty20 World Cup on home soil.
Pietersen is in a strong position after playing a leading role in taking the side back to India after the Mumbai terrorist atrocities and is unquestionably the team's best player.
Even though Moores retains significant support within the ECB, it seems unlikely the board will go against their skipper if it becomes clear either captain or coach has to go.
