Two teenagers were charged with the murder of a 19-year-old Dublin man three months after he was fatally beaten in an attack, the Central Criminal Court heard today.
A statement made by Supt Tony Brislane was read to the jury this afternoon in which he gave evidence of arresting and charging Mr Neal Barbour (20) of Domville Road, Templeogue, and another teenager with the murder of Mr Brian Mulvaney in June 2000.
Mr Mulvaney was found lying on the road in Templeogue with severe head injuries on March 11th, 2000, before he was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he died.
Mr Barbour and the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are charged along with Mr Brian Willoughby, (24) of Orwell Park, Templeogue, with the murder of Brian Mulvaney, who was from Firhouse in Dublin. Mr Willoughby was charged soon after the killing.
The jury heard that the two younger defendants made no response to the caution when charged with the crime.
The trial will resume tomorrow when the prosecution expects to finish its case against the co-accused. All three made statements to the gardaí in which they admitted chasing Mr Mulvaney, knocking him to the ground and beating and kicking him.
The prosecution allege that the three acted together and set upon the deceased because of jealousy and also because he was not from the locality.
