Dublin city centre traffic was seriously disrupted this morning following a collision between a Luas tram and a car at the junction of O'Connell Street and Abbey Street.

Witnesses said a Luas travelling east along Abbey Street collided with a Ford Focus heading north on O’Connell Street shortly after 10am this morning.

The crash  has now been cleared.

The driver and three passengers in the car were taken to hospital, as was the Luas driver. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

O'Connell Street has now reopened in both directions.

In a separate incident,  a man received minor injuries after being hit by a tram  at Benburb Street this morning.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Finglas are at the scene of a serious crash at the pedestrian lights at the junction of Charlestown Way and North Road. It is not known whether there are any fatalities. Motorists are asked to use an alternative route. Diversions are in place.
