The Western Development Commission (WDC) has moved to capitalise on brand marketing food produced in the West by linking it with a clean and natural environment, writes Sean MacConnell.

The WDC held a workshop in Donamon Castle, Co Roscommon yesterday to explore the opportunities, especially for small food producers. Ms Criosa Lynch, the WDC's regional development officer, called for a unified approach to production, marketing, distribution and branding of food from the West.

Representatives from the Irish Food Board, Enterprise Ireland, Udaras na Gaeltachta, Shannon Development, Leader companies, and local authorities took part in the workshop.
