Tokyo - The embattled Japanese Prime Minister, Mr Yoshiro Mori, yesterday dismissed suggestions he might resign as a way out of a ruling party feud. Opposition parties are to submit a no-confidence motion against Mr Mori today, and Mr Koichi Kato, a rival within Mr Mori's party, has said he will vote in favour of it.

Mr Mori has refused to be swayed. "It's obvious that I would not step down before the voting takes place", the Yomiuri Shimbun news service quoted him as saying.
