A man who died in Malahide early this morning when the car in which he was travelling overturned has been named as Christopher O'Toole of Edenmore Avenue, Coolock.

Mr O'Toole (19) died following an incident at Kinselly Lane in Malahide, Dublin at 2.45 a.m. this morning. Two othe rmen travelling in the car were injured.

An man who was killed in an accident in Galway last night has also been named as William Murphy from Ballyglass, Turloughmore.

Mr Murphy (84) died after being struck by a lorry while walking in Turloughmore village, on the main Galway to Roscommon Road at 7.40 p.m.

The two fatalities bring to 78 the number of people killed on the roads since the beginning of the year.

The National Safety Council (NSC) and the Garda launched an anti-speeding road safety campaign which will run until midnight on March 17th.

The NSC has produced a new 30 second radio commercial entitled 'It's no holiday if you get caught speeding' highlighting the dangers and consequences of excessive and inappropriate speed.
