Man held in doorman killing case

A man has been arrested in Limerick in relation to the killing of Brian Fitzgerald in the city in 2002.

A man has been arrested in Limerick in relation to the killing of Brian Fitzgerald in the city in 2002.

Gardaí in Henry Street in the city investigating Mr Fitzgerald's killing at about 3.50am on November 29th, 2002, arrested a male in his mid 30s.

The man was arrested this morning and is being detained in Henry Street Garda station under provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended.

Mr Fitzgerald (34), a nightclub doorman, was shot a number of times close to his house at Brookhaven Walk, Mill Road, Corbally, Limerick.

He was accosted by at least two men as he returned home from work.

A number of shots were heard and gardaí were called to the scene where the victim - a doorman in the city - was pronounced dead. A motorbike was found burnt a short distance away.

Three males have been convicted in relation to the shooting.
