A man who dumped 33 rotting cattle stomachs on the side of a road in blistering heat has escaped thousands of euro in fines.

A man who dumped 33 rotting cattle stomachs on the side of a road in blistering heat has escaped thousands of euro in fines.

Judge William Harnett fined the culprit just €200 yesterday, as he was unlikely to reoffend and had co-operated fully with the authorities.

The case against Gerard Duncan of Goodwins Gardens, Kells, Co Kilkenny, had been adjourned last January after he admitted two charges under the Litter Pollution Act.

Kilkenny District Court heard yesterday that he had paid clean-up costs of €546.99 to Kilkenny County Council.
