A man drowned of the coast of Clare earlier this evening while attempting to rescue a diver who had got into difficulty in Kilkeel Bay.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the 32-year-old man saw a team of three divers struggling as they attempted to come out of rough water in the bay and went to their aid.
However, he himself was swept into the sea and drowned.
The three divers subsequently managed to get to safety.
