Man charged with assault of daughter

A 45-YEAR-OLD Roscommon man has been charged with the sexual assault and neglect of his daughter.

A 45-YEAR-OLD Roscommon man has been charged with the sexual assault and neglect of his daughter.

The man appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Saturday morning and was remanded on bail to appear before Castlerea District Court next Friday.

The man faces seven charges of sexually assaulting his daughter on dates between 2003-2005. He is also charged with neglect of his daughter between 2003-2006.

Det Garda Noel Greaney gave evidence of arresting the man at an address in Dublin on Friday and taking him to Castlerea in Co Roscommon where he charged him later that night.

He told Judge Geoffrey Browne that the defendant, who cannot be named, replied “not guilty” to all eight charges.

Insp Seán Glynn said there was no Garda objection to bail.

The defendant was granted bail of €500 and ordered to sign on daily at a named Garda station in Dublin and to appear before Castlerea District Court next Friday.
