The Limerick man stabbed to death near his home in the city on Tuesday night was named by gardaí yesterday as 25-year-old Mr Rory Burke.

Mr Burke's body was found in a laneway known as Little Glentworth Street, shortly before 11 p.m. by passers-by who immediately raised the alarm.

Originally from Shannon Banks, in the Corbally area of Limerick city, Mr Burke had been living in a flat in Davis Street near the scene of his death for some time.

The area surrounding the place where his body was discovered was immediately sealed off by gardaí on Tuesday night until the arrival of the State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, yesterday.
