Former workers at the Irish Glass Bottle Company in Ringsend, Dublin, voted yesterday to accept a revised redundancy offer from the company.
Staff voted by 120 votes to 88 at a "sombre" meeting to accept the offer, which provided for improved severance terms for workers with long service.
The vote brings to an end a dispute which began when the plant was closed by its owner, Ardagh plc, with the loss of 375 jobs last July. The company's refusal to pay redundancy terms recommended by the Labour Court led to the trade union day of protest over the redundancy payments scheme.
The unions' demand for an increase in statutory payments will now form part of the negotiations on a new social partnership agreement, which open tomorrow.
Mr Mick Duffy, a TEEU shop steward and spokesman for the IGB workers, said yesterday's meeting was "fairly sombre", but staff had accepted the revised deal was the best they were going to get.
The workers had rejected a previous offer this month because they felt it discriminated against those with long service in the company.
