Gardaí in Co Monaghan are investigating a fatal road traffic incident after a vehicle was discovered at the bottom of an embankment.
A man aged in his forties was found inside the 4X4 vehicle just off the N12 road at Tyholland at approximately 5pm.
Exactly how long the vehicle had been at that location is unknown and will form part of the investigation.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains were brought to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan where a post-mortem examination will be conducted today.
The road remained closed last night to allow a garda crash investigation team time to assess the incident.
