Farmer airlifted to hospital after Cork accident

A farmer has been airlifted to hospital following a farm accident.

The man, in his 70s, was working on the family farm in Carrigadrohid near Macroom on Tuesday evening when it is believed he was injured by a bull.

It is understood the man and his son were putting a bull into a pen when the animal kicked out, striking the farmer.

The HSE's Ambulance Service and a West Cork Rapid Response vehicle rushed to the scene and the decision was then made to airlift the man to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

Medevac 112 landed at Macroom GAA Club at 7pm and the man was airlifted to CUH at 7.06pm.

The helicopter landed at the SMA House grounds in Wilton - a secondary landing zone used when the main zone at Bishopstown GAA club is unavailable - and the man was then transported to CUH by ambulance.

It is understood the man suffered severe internal injuries and is in a serious condition.
